Small Company. Big Imagination.
David Mathew Bonner Video Productions has always been a small,
owner-operated company — and I like it that way. When you call,
you talk to me. When we plan the project, I’m there. When the
camera rolls, I’m there. And when it all comes together in the
edit, I’m still there.
But what I bring to a project goes well beyond pushing record.
I want to understand what you’re really trying to say, who you
need to reach, and what you want them to feel, understand or do
when the video is over. Then I start imagining how we can tell
that story.
I’m thinking about the interview, the sound, the pacing and the
edit, but I’m also looking for the shot — a face, a machine
coming to life, a process in motion, a great piece of light,
or some little detail that says more visually than another
paragraph ever could.
That’s what From Concept to Creation means to me.
You don’t have to arrive with the video figured out. Bring me
the problem, the idea or the message, and I’ll help you figure
out how to put it on screen.
25+ Years — And I’m Still Learning
More than 25 years in video production has taken me into places I never
expected — from backstage with rock bands to filming open-heart
surgery, and just about everything in between.
Every job is different, and that’s still one of the things I love about
this work. You learn to pay attention, adapt, make people comfortable,
and recognize the shot when you see it.
The tools keep changing and getting better, and I keep learning how to
use them. But the fundamentals stay the same: understand the story,
know your craft, and get the shot.
What You Can Expect From Me
-
✔ You deal directly with me.
No account-manager handoff and no wondering who is actually
making your video.
-
✔ I’ll help you figure it out.
You don’t need to come to me with a finished script, shot list
and production plan. Tell me what you need to accomplish and
we’ll start there.
-
✔ I bring 25+ years of judgement.
Knowing what to shoot is important. Knowing what not to shoot,
what to ask, when to wait, and what the edit will need later
comes from experience.
-
✔ I know how to talk to real people.
Most people aren’t professional actors. I help owners,
executives, employees and subject-matter experts relax and
communicate like themselves.
-
✔ I keep production as big as it needs to be — and no bigger.
Most projects don’t need an army. When a project genuinely needs
more hands, cameras or specialized support, I bring them in.
-
✔ I take confidentiality seriously.
I’m comfortable with internal communications, sensitive material
and NDA-based productions.
-
✔ I travel.
I’m Alberta-based and regularly work in Edmonton and Central
Alberta, but my kit and workflow are built to go wherever the
story takes me.
-
✔ My name is on the company.
I take that personally. If I agree to make your video, I care
about what leaves the edit suite with my name attached to it.
The Anti-Agency Agent
Somewhere along the way I started calling myself
The Anti-Agency Agent.
It was partly a joke — but there’s a lot of truth behind it.
I’m not anti-agency. I’ve worked with agencies and happily work
alongside marketing and communications teams. What I’m against
are layers, complications and costs that don’t make the finished
video any better.
With me, the line is short. We talk about what you’re trying to
accomplish, I help shape the idea, and then I go make it.
Your feedback comes back to the same person who shot the footage
and is sitting in front of the edit. Nothing gets lost travelling
through three departments.
-
✔ One conversation:
you talk directly to the person doing the work.
-
✔ One creative thread:
the idea stays connected from planning through the final edit.
-
✔ Less overhead:
your budget goes toward the production, not maintaining layers
around it.
-
✔ Easy to work alongside your team:
I can lead the production or fit into an existing marketing,
communications or agency workflow.
-
✔ Scalable when necessary:
small doesn’t mean alone. When the job needs more hands,
cameras or specialized talent, I bring them in.
Keep the production lean. Keep the communication direct.
Put the value where people can actually see it — on the screen.
The Anti-Agency Agent.
A short theme song and visual I created as a lighthearted
snapshot of how I’ve worked for more than 25 years:
direct, hands-on, creative, and personally involved from
concept to delivery.
Faith, Integrity & Doing the Work Right
My Christian faith isn’t a marketing angle or something I tack onto the
business. It shapes why I work, how I treat people, and who I
ultimately believe the work is for. I try to tell the truth,
keep my word, treat people with dignity, use the abilities I’ve been given
well, and do the work in front of me to the best of my ability.
I work with people from all kinds of backgrounds and beliefs, and I treat
every client with honesty, fairness and respect. But ultimately, I want to
do good work for a reason bigger than myself — to use what God has
given me well, serve the people in front of me, and do it all to the glory
of God.
Soli Deo Gloria — Glory to God alone.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

Have An Idea? Start With A Conversation.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you call me.
In fact, that’s often where I can be most useful.
Tell me what you’re trying to communicate, who you’re trying to
reach, and what you’d like the video to accomplish. I’ll listen,
ask some questions, and help you figure out what makes sense —
even if that means telling you there’s a simpler way to do it.
My primary focus is small and medium-sized businesses and
organizations across Alberta, while I continue to take on select
larger, travel and confidential projects across Canada.
Initial consultations are free. No hard sell. Just a conversation
about your project and whether I’m the right fit for it.
