An Honest Comparison
A Company Profile and Social Posts Do Different Jobs
It is not really a choice between one or the other. They do different jobs. A company profile video helps someone understand your business when they are deciding whether to hire you, buy from you or apply for a job. Social posts help keep you visible between those decisions.
The order matters. A well-planned company profile shoot can give you the main video and short clips for social media. A collection of social posts, on the other hand, does not always add up to a clear explanation of the business.
Side by Side
Profile Video vs. Social Content
| Area | Company Profile Video | Social Media Content |
|---|
| Purpose | Explain who you are, what you do and why to trust you. | Stay visible, show personality, share news and moments. |
| Length | Usually 2 to 3 minutes, sometimes longer for a full story. | Usually seconds to about a minute. |
| Lifespan | Years, if it's planned well. | Days to weeks per post. |
| Where it lives | Website, proposals, trade shows, recruiting, investor meetings. | Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts and similar feeds. |
| Who it's for | People who are actively considering you. | People who follow you, or might discover you. |
| How it's made | Planned and professionally produced: interviews, B-roll, colour, music, titles. | Often in-house on a phone; can also be cut from professional footage. |
| Frequency | Once, then refreshed when the business changes. | Regular and ongoing. |
When to Choose Each
When Each Comes First
When Social Content Can Come First
Social content can lead if you already have a clear website and story, or if you simply need to start showing up. Phone video is fine for this.
- You already have a recent profile or brand video
- You need to stay active between bigger projects
- Your business runs on timely updates (events, seasonal work, new stock)
- You want to test what your audience responds to
- Budget is set aside for a bigger shoot later
When the Profile Video Comes First
Start with the profile when people don't yet have a clear picture of who you are, or when you're making bigger decisions about how you present the business.
- No video on your website, or an outdated one
- Bidding on contracts or sending proposals
- Recruiting and need to show what working there is like
- Rebranding, expanding or preparing for investors
- You want social clips that match a consistent look
Getting Social Content From a Profile Shoot
A profile shoot produces far more footage than the final video uses. That makes it a good source of short social clips that match your main video in look and message.
- The Starter Business Video ($2,500) includes one 60 to 90 second video and one 15 to 30 second cutdown.
- The Company Profile + Customer Stories package ($4,995) includes a 2 to 3 minute profile, two 60 to 90 second testimonials and three cutdowns.
- Extra social cutdowns can be edited from the same footage: one for $250, three for $600 or five for $900. See my pricing page for current options.
Your team can keep posting phone content in between. The professional clips anchor the feed; the everyday posts keep it current.
How I Work
How I Approach It
When I plan a company profile video, I ask where it will be used. If you also need social media clips, I plan for those during the shoot and look for useful moments that work on their own in a short vertical or square edit—not just in the full video.
I handle the project directly, from planning and filming to the final edit. That keeps the full profile and its cutdowns connected to the same story and message. I work solo by default and bring in extra crew when the job needs it.

Posh Outdoors
For Posh Outdoors, a glamping company, I produced a company video of about four and a half minutes. That length gave the business room to show the experience properly, which a short social clip can't do on its own.
A piece like that is the anchor: the video someone watches when they are deciding whether to book. See the Posh Outdoors case study

Common Questions
Profile Video vs. Social Content FAQ
Should I make a company profile video or social media content first?
For most businesses, the company profile video comes first. It explains who you are and keeps working for years, and the shoot can supply short social clips. Social content can come first if you already have a clear, current story on your website.
How long should a company profile video be?
Most are 2 to 3 minutes. Some stories need more room; the Posh Outdoors company video ran about four and a half minutes.
Can social media clips be cut from my company profile video?
Yes. I can edit social cutdowns from footage I have filmed, and some packages include them. See the pricing page for current options.
Is it fine to film my own social content on a phone?
Yes. For frequent, casual social posts, phone video is often the right tool. A professionally produced profile video and in-house social content work well together.
What is included in the Company Profile + Customer Stories package?
It is $4,995 CAD plus GST and includes up to 8 hours of filming, up to 35 hours of editing, a 2 to 3 minute profile, two 60 to 90 second testimonials and three cutdowns, along with licensed music, colour grading, branded titles, captions and two rounds of revisions.
